VOLUNTEER FOR PLANNING COMMISSION OR BOARD OF REVIEW
Our CITY PLANNING COMMISSION plays a critical role in shaping the future of all Lake City’s residents.by guiding the development and growth of city spaces. Members are responsible for reviewing proposals for land use, zoning, and development projects. This includes evaluating how these projects will impact the city’s infrastructure, environment, and social dynamics while keeping the city’s footprint in place. Commission members assess how new developments align with the city’s long-term master plan, while ensuring that growth is sustainable and benefits all residents. Additionally, they hold public hearings to gather feedback from the community and represent the voices of the people in decision-making processes.
The CITY BOARD OF REVIEW is a critical body that ensures fairness and transparency in a city’s assessment process. City residents on the Board of Review are tasked with evaluating property tax assessments, ensuring that property values are fair and consistent with market trends. They consider appeals from property owners who feel that their assessments are too high or unfair. In their decision-making, members must balance the interests of taxpayers and the city’s financial needs, ensuring fairness while maintaining the city’s ability to fund essential services.
It is crucial to add more members to bring a variety of diverse perspectives and expertise. Younger residents with backgrounds in real estate, law, or economics can help ensure that decisions are well-informed and reflective of current market conditions.
