SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT

As outlined in the City Charter, the City Council is charged with ensuring
the public peace, health, and safety of all residents and their property. In
light of recent inaccuracies surrounding current projects, it’s important to
clarify the facts and reaffirm the council’s commitment to responsible
governance. It is the City’s hope that the clarifications and transparency
will be of benefit to all stakeholders.

•The State of Michigan does not invest in projects, especially those
approaching $2 million, without thorough vetting and a proven track record
of public value. Funding decisions are grounded in expert review, and this
particular project is strongly aligned with goals for economic development
and community-wide benefit as stated in the Visioning M66 Corridor
Project. The Park Project is scheduled to begin around Labor Day.

•The Engineering firm of Gosling-Cuzbek has begun their work on Main
Street as the city continues to collaborate with MDOT to implement
strategies that will calm traffic through downtown and improve pedestrian
safety. Street Scape changes are scheduled to begin around Labor Day.

•A significant portion of the bond funding is dedicated to accelerating the
identification and replacement of lead service lines which will begin the first
week of June. This proactive approach spares individual homeowners the
financial burden and addresses public health risks before they escalate.
The recent water quality report, sent to all households by the DPW, shows
NO current lead concerns, demonstrating the city’s vigilance and continued
commitment to resident health.

•Research consistently shows that communities thrive when they invest in
making themselves attractive destinations, rather than resisting change.
The council’s efforts reflect that vision, to preserve what makes Lake City
unique while responsibly planning for what it can become.

The City encourages the continued engagement of our residents and
welcomes open, accurate and well-informed dialogue.
