City Update: Park Improvements, Boat Access, and Spring Cleanup Reminders

As the County proceeds with the channel dredging in the lagoon this month, boaters should be aware that access to the boat launch is temporarily closed.  In anticipation of these changes, and as part of the City of Lake City’s Master Plan to improve pedestrian safety and traffic speed, the City is planning to reverse the entrance and exit access to Miltner Park. This change is designed to make it easier and more convenient for people to launch their boats on Lake Missaukee during the busy summer season and beyond. It also supports the City’s larger goals of improving traffic circulation and ensuring safer park access for both vehicles and pedestrians.

Although there are no official citywide spring cleanup days scheduled this year, residents are reminded to take pride in maintaining their homes and properties. A well-kept yard and clean surroundings contribute to a more beautiful and welcoming Lake City for everyone. Fortunately, there are still several services available to assist with seasonal cleanup efforts.

For residents of Lake City and Lake Township, the compost site is open every Wednesday and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The site is located on the left side of Decker Road, about a half mile past the curve north of town.  Locals may remember it as the old city dump. Additionally, brush piles are picked up by City workers during the third week of each month. While contractor waste is not eligible for pickup, yard waste and leaf bags are collected by City crews every other day. Residents are also reminded that they may place one large household item with their trash for pickup each week.

Together, these efforts will help keep Lake City clean, accessible, and enjoyable throughout the summer months.
