REGISTRATION WINDOW FOR SHORT TERM RENTALS APRIL 1st – MAY 31st
The City of Lake City is reminding rental property owners that the window for registration of Short-Term Rentals (STRs) opens on April 1, 2025, and runs through May 31, 2025. This is an important period for both current rental property owners and those looking to start renting in the city.
Under the city’s current regulations, there is a limit of 15 STR properties within city limits. If the total number of STRs reaches this cap, interested owners must request to be added to a waitlist. Those added to the list will be required to submit a non-refundable deposit fee ($100) to secure their spot when an opening becomes available.
To complete the registration process, owners must follow a three-step procedure:
- Complete the Annual Rental Property Registration Form & Pay Fees– This form is available at the City Offices. All property owners, both current and prospective, must complete the registration and pay a $500 License Fee & $250 Inspection Fee is due at this time.
- Inspection by City Ordinance Officer – After submitting the registration form and fee payments, owners will receive a Rental Program Handbook. Following this, the City Ordinance Officer will inspect the rental units to ensure they meet all city codes.
3. Permit – The permit will be issued once the final inspection is passed.
Failure to complete the three step registration process by May 31, 2025 deadline will result in the forfeiture of the owner’s place on the City’s rental roster. The Rental Program Handbook includes further details, including the requirements for rental agreements and property maintenance. The City of Lake City enforces these regulations under the provisions of the Home Rule City Act, incorporating the 2018 International Property Maintenance Code to ensure rental properties are safe and well-maintained for all residents and visitors.
